Virtual gastric banding: why you need an experienced professional

Virtual gastric banding: why you need an experienced professional

If you’re thinking of doing virtual gastric banding in Canberra, it pays to do your research and find an experienced professional. Virtual gastric band hypnosis is an involved form of hypnotherapy that requires specialist training from the pioneer of virtual gastric banding herself: Dr Sheila Granger.

When Dr Granger first tested virtual gastric banding on a group of 25 people in 2009, she achieved outstanding results. The group had a combined weight loss total of almost 90kg in just over 3 weeks! Only 1 person in the trial did not lose weight.

It was many years ago when I first received training from Sheila on her inaugural visit to Australia, and since then the treatment has taken the world even more by storm and made countless headlines from clients singing its praises.

In addition to understanding the specific hypnotherapy techniques that make virtual gastric banding successful, certified hypnotherapists are also invested in helping their clients make important changes in their daily lives.

Similar to medical gastric banding, virtual gastric banding makes you feel full after only eating a small amount of food. Except in the case of virtual versus actual gastric banding, it is far cheaper, faster and safer as it does not require invasive surgery. Instead, we convince your mind that you have had gastric band surgery!

Virtual gastric banding is not a diet, but it does require thoughtful food choices in the months that follow treatment. Although you will not be able to eat much, you will feel the urge to choose better foods – and listening to that urge is crucial.

Many of my clients are surprised by their desire to eat more small and very healthy meals, without even trying! This is all part of receiving the proper virtual gastric band hypnosis.

Performed effectively, Virtual Gastric Banding can have life changing and lifelong positive effects.

Here is a testimonial from one of my lovely clients…

I’ve been struggling with my weight for many, many years resulting in a severe lack of confidence. Having tried many different forms of weight loss such as gym memberships, Lite ‘n Easy, Weight Watchers, etc., I decided I’d have nothing to lose by trying hypnotherapy.

After checking online, I made the best phone call of my life by contacting Rebecca. After just 4 sessions with Rebecca over a 3 week period, I’ve not only lost 5.5kg to date, I’ve also found my life has taken a complete turn for the better.

My outlook on life, confidence and personal self-esteem have done a complete turn-around. Rebecca not only helped me on my road to weight loss, she helped me come to terms with some inner demons that I didn’t realise I have been harbouring since my teens.

I feel like a new person with a completely different outlook on life and most importantly, I now like who I am. I cannot thank you enough Rebecca for what you have done for me in such a short time. I would recommend Rebecca without a moment’s hesitation to anyone looking for assistance in any of life’s challenges. You are a caring and compassionate lady and truly excellent in your craft.

Thank you again Rebecca for making a huge change to my life. Here’s to eating to live and not living to eat!

Treating Eating Disorders

Treating Eating Disorders

Binge eating. Bulimia. Anorexia nervosa.

These are all serious eating disorders that not only damage your body, but can lead to illness, disease and even death.

In the 27 years that I have been practicing hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, ego state therapy and counselling, I have had many clients come to me to treat their eating disorders.

Some have just started on the path to destruction, and others have been warned by their doctors that if they don’t seek professional help they could become very sick.

Every eating disorder is the result of a problem that starts in the mind.

The person feels they cannot control their actions, as with binge eating and bulimia, or they suffer from a warped reality where they see themselves as looking one way (overweight) when they really look completely different (very thin).

This war of the mind is extremely painful and can cause severe emotional distress. Part of the person wants to stop what they are doing. But the part that has been “winning” usually continues to win, resulting in a worsening of the condition. In short, they are in total discord.

When a client presents to me with these symptoms, I need to draw on a range of therapies to treat it. No single therapy is usually enough, but with a combination we can slowly break through the damaging thoughts and give power to positive thoughts that create change.

It often takes between 4-6 sessions to achieve a cure, and it does take complete willingness of the client to be part of the process and take on any advice or techniques I suggest.

  • Eating disorders are a war within the mind
  • Hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, ego state therapy and counselling treat conditions of the mind
  • Cure is possible, but you must be willing to change

To learn more about treating an eating disorder, contact me for an obligation-free friendly chat.

Please note that because this is a sensitive subject, I like to get to know my prospective clients immediately over the phone. You may use email to make initial contact, but I will always follow up with a phone call so we can discuss in more depth and decide on a personalised treatment plan.

The fastest growing disease in the world

The fastest growing disease in the world

Every five minutes, someone in the world is diagnosed with diabetes. This silent pandemic kills millions of people every year, and affects the lives of over a million Australians. Sadly, Australia also ranks in the top 10 countries that have the highest incidents of this awful disease.

Although Type 1 diabetes is believed not to be caused by lifestyle factors, the cause of Type 2 diabetes is often attributed to an overload of sugar, stress and an absence of exercise.

Through Accordhypno, I see countless overweight individuals who rely on unhealthy takeaway and packaged foods, simply because they believe they don’t have time to prepare nutritious meals. They also don’t have time to exercise. Combined, these factors can trigger immense guilt, leading to feelings of helplessness and despair. These feelings then lead to sugar binges and late night snacking…which further exacerbate the problem.

In an effort to lose weight, many people then turn to fad diets. They starve their bodies of essential nutrients by choosing not to eat (rather than to eat healthily), which leads the body to enter survival mode – causing more weight gain in the future.

If this is you, it’s time to stop. If you have any compassion for your amazing body at all – the vessel that keeps you alive and allows you to experience this world – you would realise that it needs a break from all of this abuse. Binge eating, starving and internal hatred towards the way you look are sure-fire ways to attract sickness and disease.

Let me help you.

We can work together to get to the bottom of your overeating, and uncover the triggers that make you do it in the first place. Every action has a reaction. So together, we need to find out what’s triggering yours.

This is something I work on with clients every day: freeing them from poor habits and destructive thoughts, while paving the way for exciting, life-affirming changes to occur in their lives.

I can work with you to get to a place where you want to eat healthy food and drink. You want to be mindful of what you do to your body and how you treat it. You want to take care of yourself so you can live the life you’ve always dreamed.

Ask me about Virtual Gastric Banding as a method for preventing and treating diabetes. It takes just 4 sessions and has a 95% success rate.

I can also work with you to counter other addictions, such as smoking and drinking, and help with unbalanced hormones, stress, and other factors that may be having a negative impact on your life.

If you seriously want to quit smoking, this is for you!

If you seriously want to quit smoking, this is for you!

If you’ve made a decision to quit smoking but you’re not sure how, why not try hypnotherapy?

I’ve seen many smokers over the years from all across Australia – including QLD where I lived for nearly 10 years and Melbourne where I lived for 9 years. These are people who had smoked 40-70 cigs a day, or 15-20 cigs a day, and within one hypnotherapy session they had quit for good, with a free session available if they ever needed to come back (though almost none ever did!).

Some of my old clients even travel from Melbourne to Canberra to see me for other forms of hypnotherapy because they have seen such a huge transformation in their life.

Occasionally I see clients who say they want to stop but are not ready yet. It’s important that you are truly ready or there is no solution – hypnotherapy or otherwise – that can help you.

What happens after Quit Smoking hypnotherapy

You will feel on and off that something is missing, but during our session I give you a hypnotic cue to make the feeling go away.

Smoking has so many chemicals in it now that it has become a very dangerous habit to pursue. It’s the same with drinking strong alcoholic beverages as they go hand in hand.

Hypnotherapy means therapy in a hypnotic state. In that state, you make a few decisions and I also talk to your conscious and subconscious mind to make sure they work together in harmony. Smoking/drinking is classified as zoning out, i.e. running away.  But because both are a strong drug, they are not good for your hormonal body.

I’ve had huge success in my work, and have seen over 30,000 people over the 29 years I have been a hypnotherapist. If I feel people are not ready, I may send them away to think about it, and make a new appointment when they are ready.

Before you make a booking for hypnotherapy to help you quit for good, make sure you are really serious about quitting. Think about what you are giving up when you continue to smoke…health, family, cost; it’s a very expensive habit on all fronts.

How to lose weight naturally

How to lose weight naturally

Have you ever wondered how to lose weight naturally? No crazy diets, no meal replacements, no shakes or pills, and no surgery? Just a rightness of mind that makes it easy to choose foods that are good for the body and soul, in portions your tummy was designed to digest?

When you really think about it, natural weight loss should be the most natural thing in the world to achieve. Because, quite simply, there is nothing natural about many of the foods we eat these days: packaged, processed, high sugar, and loaded with preservatives.

There is also nothing natural about the volume of these foods and drinks that we put in our bodies every day. If food is fuel, then we should not have to wrangle with our mind about eating that extra slice of cake. We should be able to feel when enough is enough.

Naturally allowing our bodies to let this “artificial” weight fall away so that our real bodies – however big, small, tall or short they may be – can shine through, is a beautiful and natural process in itself.

So what makes this natural process of weight loss so hard to achieve? Why is it so difficult to resist that piece (or block) of chocolate, and that glass (or bottle) of wine?

Your mind.

Your mind is a wonderful, intelligent part of your body that can also sometimes feel like an enemy because it is divided in two: the conscious and subconscious.

The subconscious mind is very powerful and picks up on everything the conscious mind says. Those messages sink down into your subconscious where they stay and become habit. If you try to change your life, your “new” conscious mind reacts to your trained subconscious mind, which can even make you feel sick to your stomach.

Our subconscious minds are programmed by our thoughts, which is why mantras are so effective. For example, I think “thin, vibrant, and healthy” or “I only eat 3 small healthy meals every day.” Repeated over and over again, these conscious thoughts start to become subconscious thoughts – and the conscious and subconscious can work together to create change.

How do you speak directly to your subconscious mind?

Through hypnosis. Hypnotherapy is a fast way to communicate with and suggest new thoughts to your subconscious mind.

Clients come to me for help with everything from poor eating habits to binge drinking, anxiety, study stress, gambling, insomnia and much more.

Hypnotherapy is natural, safe and highly effective for many people. So if you want to know how to lose weight naturally, and are tired of that painful voice in your head disrupting your best intentions, please give me a call.

I will talk you through the process, and discuss how hypnotherapy can help you.

End of year goals: moving past addictive behaviours

End of year goals: moving past addictive behaviours

As we near the end of 2018, a lot of people are coming to see me about their addictive behaviours.

And while Christmas and New Year celebrations always make us think of “indulgence”, “the silly season”, and “celebration”, it may also be the perfect time to make a change in your life.

There is no reason why you can’t enjoy the holidays without over indulging. You could end the year by finally dealing with a problem that has been holding you back, and start 2019 with a bang. You won’t need to worry about New Year’s Resolutions, because instead of making them – you will already be living them!

If you are delaying, you should ask yourself why.

I often find that people don’t seek treatment for addiction because they feel fearful and embarrassed. They fear change, they fear loss (of the comfort they believe the addiction provides), and they fear that life will never be the same again. They are also embarrassed to admit that this is who they are. Embarrassed to say “Yes, I let it get this far”. Embarrassed to confide in someone else the pain they suffer inside.

You don’t need to feel this fear or embarrassment. I am not here to judge you, or criticise you, or make you feel bad. I am here to help you.

I treat a wide range of addictive behaviours and their consequences using hypnotherapy, including:

  • Stop Smoking in 1 session
  • Anxiety/Panic attacks
  • Virtual Gastric Banding
  • Alcohol problems
  • Insomnia
  • Inner Child work
  • Past Lives therapy
  • Nail Biting
  • Learning Difficulties
  • Obsessive Compulsive disorders

Addictions come in all shapes and forms. But they have one thing in common: they hold us back from who we are and what we are capable of achieving in our life. They make us fearful and embarrassed, when we should be confident and enthusiastic.

My process includes getting to the heart of your addiction, and working to change what your subconscious is telling you about it. Your subconscious thoughts are what keeps your addiction going – they tell you that you want it, that you need it, and that you can’t live without it.

You can. And I will work with you one on one to make that change in your life so that you can start next year as the “you” that you were designed to be – not the you that you have been.

For a confidential discussion, please give me a call on 6156 8227 or contact me.

To fight or to flight?

To fight or to flight?

Your overall wellbeing is critical to how you live your life, and how you live in the lives of others.

Your physical, emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual, environmental and occupational wellbeing is constantly changing. Each peaks at different times, and has a definite effect on another. Those who have the ability to see the warning signs when one part of their wellbeing is under threat, are able to find the strength to change their lives for the better.

Those who can’t are often faced with what psychologists call ‘the fight or flight response’: “you fight through the stressful situation” or “you run from it”. Naturally, running from the stresses usually feels like the easier, more comfortable option. That is, until it starts to affect other areas in your life! Then, running away can actually become a burden.

Other things that can affect your wellbeing include the basics, like a good night’s sleep or a healthy meal. When you stop taking care of yourself in areas such as sleep and diet, you begin to jeopardise your wellbeing.

If you’ve noticed changes in your sleeping, eating and drinking habits, or you’ve picked up nasty new habits like excessive gambling or smoking, it might be time to ask yourself why. Noticing and acknowledging the changes in your behaviour is the first step to curing yourself from your problems.

Then can you explore why you might be acting this way.

Perhaps you:

  • have just come out of a long term relationship
  • were made redundant from your secure job
  • have put on a few extra kilos

Various life factors lead to negative change, and while we may be able to bounce back from the minor setbacks, sometimes setbacks keep piling up. The bigger the pile, the harder it is to climb out of it.

If your wellbeing is suffering, take a moment to look. Look into yourself. Look at yourself. Look for yourself.

If you need a little help, or a push in the right direction, I can help. If you’re sick of flying away from your problems, I would love to help you fight them.

Our behaviour can be changed with one simple desire for change. But having the desire for change and doing something about it are not often that easy. Hypnotherapy can help you break the cycle you find yourself in, and help you fight the true cause of your pain. It can re-wire your thinking and change the outcome of your life. And it may just be the helping hand you’ve always needed but never found.

Wouldn’t you rather be a fighter than a flyer? Aren’t you ready to be the best version of yourself, for yourself and those you love?

Change your life for the better. Book a hypnotherapy session with me today by calling 6156 8227 or use the contact form.

A slimmer, healthier you with Virtual Gastric Banding

A slimmer, healthier you with Virtual Gastric Banding

It’s a common scenario for people who want to lose weight: trying an abundance of fad diets, losing faith, returning to bad habits, and continuing to gain weight.

It can be a viscous cycle that repeats for years (if not decades), until you either:

  1. Accept the status quo and resign yourself to a life of being overweight
  2. Encounter a health problem and are forced to lose weight
  3. Find a lasting solution that reaches you on a profound level

Hopefully, you are one of the lucky ones who discovers the third option before the first two take hold.

Often, a lasting solution is one that does much more than deal with the problem of overeating. It does more than restrict your calories and guide you towards making healthier food choices. And it makes more sense – on a conscious and subconscious level – than forcing yourself into a punishing exercise routine.

A lasting solution is one that deals with the cause of the problem, and the underlying reasons why you overeat and make poor food choices.

It deals with the little boy or girl who was told to eat up all the food on their plate. It helps the stressed out mother who finds solace in overeating late at night. It makes sense of the desire to eat when an emotion (be it happy or sad) becomes too overwhelming.

A lasting solution is:

  • Not another fad diet
  • Not made up of pills and shakes
  • Not a bandaid solution

The Virtual Gastric Band is a weight loss program like no other. It is specifically designed to change how you think about food.

Virtual Gastric Banding retrains your body and mind to be satisfied.

You will no longer want to eat more food than you need for a healthy body. And you will feel motivated to make realistic changes that last long term. It can put you back in control of your own shape and size, by helping you to respond easily and naturally to what your body is telling you.

Find your lasting solution now, and take the first step towards becoming that slimmer, healthier you.

It’s time to quit: cigarettes reach $39 a packet

It’s time to quit: cigarettes reach $39 a packet

If you’ve been sitting on the fence about quitting smoking, the latest price hike may provide the incentive you need.

Government has taken a strong stance on cigarettes in the past decade, pushing the price up more than $10 a packet in an effort to force people to quit, and reduce some of the pressure smoking-related ailments place on our Medicare system.

There doesn’t seem to be an end in sight for the price hikes, with further increases expected in the new financial year (2018-2019).

Given the financial burden smoking now places on smokers (regardless of whether you believe the price increases are fair or not), it seems there is no better time to stub out and throw those ciggies away.

As a clinical hypnotherapist and psychotherapist for almost 30 years, I have helped thousands of clients give up smoking for good.

Smoking is a habit, not an addiction, and just like every habit it can be broken. Over years or decades of smoking, you have trained yourself to walk the same path every day: lighting up with a coffee, after a meal, with a glass of wine, and to break up the work day.

Your subconscious forces you to keep doing this…over and over again. It does not ask why, and it does not make it easy for your conscious to step in and stop it. Therefore, the only way to change your behaviour is to speak directly to your subconscious and change its connection to smoking.

In a single 90 minute session, I can help you do this.

I will break through the conscious barrier, reach your subconscious, and change its “mind” about smoking. By the time the session has finished, you will walk out of my office without any need to light up.

I will also give you a CD to play at home, to ensure that the treatment remains effective as you go through any physical symptoms of withdrawal (which are usually mild).

The cost of this treatment is less than many smokers would pay for a week’s worth of cigarettes. Except, instead of inhaling your money and wasting it on destroying your health, you will never have to pay another cent.

Think of all the things you could do with the money you save:

  • Go on a holiday
  • Get a new wardrobe
  • Enjoy more dinners out
  • Spend money on your kids
  • Buy a new car
  • Pay your mortgage off faster

And not to mention the health benefits:

  • More energy
  • Easier breathing
  • Less anxiety
  • No smell
  • More time to enjoy life (and saving your life!)

Don’t head into the new financial year wasting another dollar, or another minute of your life, on smoking.

I can help you walk a new path – one that leads to greater health and prosperity.

Book your quit smoking hypnotherapy session today by calling 6156 8227 or contact me.

Is alcohol becoming a problem for you?

Is alcohol becoming a problem for you?

Most of us don’t really think of alcohol as a drug, but it is. And despite the fact that you may drink it to “feel good”, alcohol is actually classed as a depressant because of the effects it has on the body’s vital functions.

Drinking a little too much alcohol leads to minor depressant effects, such as lack of judgement or coordination. Severe depressant effects include numbness to pain, alcohol poisoning, vomiting, unconsciousness and even death.

The facts on drinking in Australia are somewhat terrifying. According to a number of studies on alcohol consumption in Australia over the past decade*:

  • Alcohol is the most widely used drug in Australia
  • It costs society more than $15 billion every year
  • 1 in 10 workers say they have experienced the negative effects of a co-worker’s use of alcohol
  • Alcohol-related diseases kill almost 6000 people in Australia every year
  • 12 to 13 people a month die from alcohol related cancer, attributed to drinking at least some alcohol every day
  • Young Australians drink less, however older Australians are really hitting the bottle hard

In a global drug survey, Australia ranked third (behind Mexico and Ireland) for respondents who said they wished they drank less.

When you want to drink less, it’s often because you are starting to feel the negative effects on your body, or you have had one too many bad experiences after drinking too much.

Many Australians reach for an alcoholic drink out of habit, or as a way to relax at the end of a long day – BUT if you answer “yes” to any of the following, alcohol may be becoming a problem for you:

  • Do you feel as though your drinking is getting out of control?
  • Are you drinking too much alcohol (more than the health guidelines)?
  • Do you spend too much money on alcohol?
  • Do you have to make excuses about your drinking?
  • Are you violent when you drink?
  • Do you believe you drink because of boredom or stress?
  • Are you gaining weight from over-drinking?
  • Is alcohol affecting your relationships/marriage?
  • Do you have frequent mood swings – particularly when you cannot drink?
  • Do you feel lost, like you don’t know yourself any more?
  • Are you waking in the middle of the night due to alcohol affecting your sleep?
  • Are you using alcohol to get to sleep?
  • Do you often make plans to “quit drinking” on Monday, but it doesn’t work out?
  • Is feeling hung-over spoiling your weekend, or that of your spouse, children and family members?
  • Do you suffer alcohol-induced blackouts, or have trouble remembering the night before?
  • Are you ashamed of your behaviour?
  • Do you frequently offend people while you’re drunk?
  • Does your spouse or children ask you to stop drinking?
  • Are you worried about your long term health?

If you find yourself nodding while reading these questions, it’s probably a sign that you need to do something now.

Hypnotherapy for alcohol addiction can help you understand and deal with the reasons why you drink, as well as programming your subconscious to think differently about alcohol. I’ve worked with hundreds of clients over the years, and achieved a 95% success rate in just 3-4 sessions.

It’s time to make a decision.

Take that first step, and call me on 6156 8227.

How to change your thinking

How to change your thinking

Did you know that it’s possible to change a habit – any habit – simply by changing your thinking? As the saying goes: “You are what you think you are.”

When we think, we create. We create ourselves, and the situations around us. And just as we can think ourselves into the habits we form in our lives, we can just as easily think our way out of them.

It sounds too good to be true, but for many, the simple act of changing their thinking seems like an impossible task.

And this is where hypnotherapy and counselling can really help.

For example, I help my clients challenge their perceptions of themselves and escape the horrible habits that are keeping them down. I create a roadmap for success, by working with my clients’ conscious and subconscious minds to recognise that they have the power to change their lives – no matter how many times they have tried and failed before.

Here are four simple steps for achieving success in your life:

(1) Evaluate yourself and your life, and decide what’s not working for you. Think about which habits are holding you back from being the person you really want to be.

(2) Make a decision to change. This is very important.

(3) Be that person. Don’t overthink it, and don’t allow yourself to become complacent. Walk the talk.

(4) Success is already yours! You are that person. And if you continue this correct thinking, your old habits will just be a bad memory.

This process is like a rebirth. And it works for everything. Nothing is too difficult. But in order for it to work, you MUST accept that you are responsible for changing your thinking and therefore your habits. There is nothing holding you back but you.

I can help you understand this process in more depth, and guide you in applying it in your own life to achieve success in ways you never thought possible.

For example:

Smoking is not an addiction; it’s a habit you can break. Many, many psychologists will tell you that. Changing your thinking is all that is required, and I can help you do it in a single session.

Weightloss is easy if you understand how to eat right, and treat food as nourishment for your body – the way it is meant to be. Food is not an addiction, you have just formed bad habits around the way you consume food. And together, we can change it.

Gambling is a destructive habit that can leave you broke and depressed. The urge to gambling is the result of a habit you have formed by allowing yourself to continue gambling. All it takes to never gamble again is a mindset adjustment and a commitment to changing your life.

Drinking is usually a habit that forms over many years of believing that you “just need one or two to relax of an evening” – causing you to fall into a comfort zone that only becomes uncomfortable when you realise how it’s affecting your health, finances and relationships.

I could go on and on, discussing all forms of horrible habits that systematically destroy millions of lives every year.

But the point is, it doesn’t need to destroy yours. If it’s not working for you, and it’s not in accord with who you want to be, then it needs to go.

Let me help you say goodbye to old habits. You only need a simple adjustment of thinking, and I can help you get there.

How to avoid escapism these holidays

How to avoid escapism these holidays

Escapism: the tendency to seek distraction and relief from unpleasant realities.

Overeating. Drinking. Smoking. Gambling. These are all dangerous forms of escapism that have a tendency to take hold of people during the holiday season.

Escapism provides a (very) short escape from a stressful situation and is often deeply regretted afterwards. That is, until the mind seeks to escape again!

From a physical point of view, this vicious cycle of escape-regret-escape, is often a response to cortisol and dopamine levels in the body. Cortisol is our stress hormone, and when it is released, our dopamine (or “happy” hormone) levels decrease. Desperate for a spike, we seek out activities that we believe will provide an instant hit of dopamine.

If you live a healthy lifestyle, you might associate this with a cup of tea, a warm bath, a run around the block, or cooking a nice meal. Unfortunately, however, this is not often the case. Too many people associate dopamine release with negative activities such as binge eating, drinking to excess, smoking or gambling. And because the release is so short lived, they continue to engage in the behaviour until they are truly regretful.

This negative behaviour is often made worse during the holiday season, when we are told to relax despite an abundance of stressful situations, such as Christmas shopping, family get-togethers, office parties, and so on.

This year, instead of starting 2018 in a sad and sorry state, make a conscious decision to let go of your negative escapist behaviours and embrace positive new ones.

At Accordhypno, we can help you start next year on the right foot by letting go of these negative behaviours, and finding better ways to cope with stress. We can retrain your brain so that you no longer associate pleasure with things that bring you down and leave you feeling regretful.

Virtual Gastric Banding: Worried about binge eating this silly season? Forget diets and willpower. Virtual Gastric Banding changes the way you see food and destroys the desire to overeat. Like traditional lap band surgery, our techniques will help you feel full after eating less, and get you on the path to healthy weight loss after just a few sessions. Simply call us on 6156 8227.

Alcoholism: The problem with “just a few drinks” is that after a while, “just a few” can become “never enough”. You need more and more to get the same effect, which can have devastating consequences on your health, family and finances. We have countless testimonials from happy clients who have escaped the hold alcohol has on their mind and wellbeing. Email us to learn more.

Smoking: Smoking costs a fortune these days, and it’s scientifically proven to ruin your health. Save your life, your bank account and your sanity by starting 2018 smoke free. Even if you have tried to quit 5, 10 or even 20 times – we can help. By this time next year you could be planning an overseas holiday and enjoying a much better “escape”, simply with all the money you’ve saved! It only takes one session.

Gambling: Gambling away your family’s livelihood is a fast road to divorce, unemployment, depression, and worse. You may think you feel better when you play, but remember the hatred that follows when you (9 times in 10) lose every cent! Gambling hypnotherapy takes just 3-4 sessions, and will help you escape the hold gambling has over your mind and wallet.

Don’t let your negative forms of escapism ruin your life. Take a positive step now by calling 6156 8227 and let us help you turn it around before you welcome in the New Year.

Past Lives: Have we been here before?

Past Lives: Have we been here before?

As a hypnotherapist who believes in learning from my predecessors, I have studied everything from clinical hypnotherapy to counselling, psychotherapy, subconscious mind healing, metaphysics, ego state therapy, and Virtual gastric banding/Hormone Therapy.

You can visit my About page to learn more about my extensive qualifications, where you’ll also see certifications in past life regression therapy, including study with popular American psychiatrist, hypnotherapist and author Brian Leslie Weiss, who specialises in past life regression, and also famous Delores Cannon from Quantum Healing USA.

It is my belief that we (you and I) have been here many times before, and that every time we return we are here to learn more and deal with karmic issues from previous lives.

Many people get the sense that this is true, even if they aren’t sure if they truly believe it. Have you ever met someone you automatically don’t like, but aren’t sure why? Or you get deja vu in certain situations, or feel like you’ve known family or close friends forever – perhaps in previous lives?

I believe that our soul has a destiny, and that each iteration in this world provides new opportunities to learn and grow…spiritually, emotionally, sexually, mentally, and physically.

Some children remember their past lives. Up to the age of 7 they often live in a different world, talking to imaginative people with names and behaving very grown up when relating to it. When you ask them why they have different names, quite often they say things with so much wisdom. But usually by age 7 this disappears, as the sensory overload and memories from this life make them forget, and it’s only through therapies such as hypnosis that allow you to tap into the subconscious mind and remember.

It’s amazing what can be uncovered during a session. For example, many clients recount a previous death, where they know that their body is lifeless but can still see everything around them (even though no one can see or hear them). Other clients recount significant events in a past life, which plays out like a film in their mind.

No two sessions are ever the same, just as no two souls are the same. Some people have reincarnated many, many times and still have what we call an “unevolved” or “young soul”. Others are highly evolved.

It’s also interesting to note that relationships never end. We have different bodies, but there is always familiarity in a face – particularly in people’s eyes.

Often “love at first site”, or a deep connection with a partner, is due to a past life experience. It is recognition of earlier contact, and can have powerful effects in this life (often termed “finding your soul mate”, but I like to call it “love recognition” or destiny). We have many soulmates: parents, siblings, friends, and other partners we have known before from thousands of lifetimes.

If you’ve ever wondered about your past lives, past life regression therapy may give you answers to:

  • ailments in the body
  • creative desires
  • relationship issues
  • purpose
  • spirituality concerns
  • marks on the body

And for those who have always struggled with their identity, past life regression can also help to unearth subconscious truths that are difficult to acknowledge consciously.

I’ve practiced past life regression for many years, drawing on study with Peter Ramster 1992, Betty Binder ’92, Delores Cannon, Brian Weiss, and have studied Helen Wambach ’92 method – all well-known and highly experienced practitioners.

I draw on the best methods needed to speak directly to your subconscious, so that we can find answers to the truths you seek.

Virtual Gastric Banding…Changing the Brain and Balancing Hormones

Virtual Gastric Banding…Changing the Brain and Balancing Hormones

Are you:

  • Struggling to lose weight?
  • Accumulating excess belly fat?
  • Feeling tired?
  • Experiencing mood swings?
  • Finding it difficult to concentrate?

If so, these are all symptoms of hormone imbalance, likely caused by too much stress in your daily life.

Dr Bruce Lipton (The Biology of Belief) estimates that up to 95% of all illnesses and diseases are caused by stress.

Stress can lead to emotional eating and wreak havoc on our hormones, which negatively impact our weight, metabolism, mood, energy and health.

Severe stress can put us in a constant “fight or flight” mode, where we repeatedly release too much cortisol and damage our immune system, digestion, and brain function. This happens because cortisol is constantly moving energy away from non-essential functions (like the stomach and reproductive organs), and feeding your muscles to help you escape.

Fight or flight is a natural response to help us stay alive. Throughout history, we have used it in times of danger, such as escaping from a predator. However, in today’s modern world, we rarely experience ongoing calm and relaxation with one or two short instances of fight or flight.

In fact, many of us put ourselves in constant fight or flight mode to handle excess stress at work and home. We take on too much, create enormous expectations for ourselves, and end the day in a state of shock – trying to calm the body with excess alcohol or food.

This cycle can continue forever, if nothing is done to treat it.

If you have been experiencing high levels of stress, and are comfort eating and gaining weight, be aware that you are likely placing your body under incredible stress which could lead to sickness, disease, and even death.

But there is a solution.

Curing emotional eating involves reprogramming the brain and balancing the hormones, so that they work together and not in chaos. And this forms part of my virtual gastric banding treatment.

When I work with you to lose weight through gastric banding, I am also working with you to reduce stress and take your body out of chaos.

Within four sessions, you are on your way to better health, slimness, positive lifestyle change, and better food choices to ensure your hormones function properly.

There’s no need to end every day in a state of shock, drinking, eating and smoking the day’s excess cortisol away. You can find inner peace that leads to inner health and amazing outward changes.

How Does Hypnotherapy Help with Gambling Addiction?

How Does Hypnotherapy Help with Gambling Addiction?

Australians spend over $23 billion a year on all forms of gambling, with over half a million of our citizens considered to be problem gamblers. We have some of the highest rates of gambling in the world, due to our unlimited access to poker machines, lotteries, sports betting, racing, card games, online gaming, and many other forms of wagering.

Gambling becomes an addiction when an individual cannot stop themselves from “playing”. Driven by a need to experience the same highs and lows (yes…even the lows are addictive!) that gambling provides, the addict repeats the behaviour as frequently as possible and more often than not, spends much more than they can afford to lose.

The inability to stop, combined with the impact on their financial freedom and quality of life, drives many gambling addicts to the brink of insanity. Approximately one Australian commits suicide every day as a result of their addiction to gambling.

Common symptoms of gambling addiction include:

  • Constant thoughts about gambling
  • Trying to win back losses by gambling more
  • Increasing the amounts of the bet to maintain excitement
  • Lying to friends and family
  • Borrowing or stealing money to gamble
  • Seeing gambling as the only good thing in your life
  • Saying you want to stop, but continuing anyway

But there is a way out, and hypnotherapy can provide a very successful avenue for dealing with (and curing) gambling addiction.

Hypnotherapy works by finding and shifting the thoughts and triggers that force you to gamble. Repeated gambling is often sub-conscious, so it can be very difficult to control with self-discipline alone. In hypnotherapy, we by-pass the conscious and deal directly with the sub-conscious, essentially changing the way it “thinks” and aligning it with your personal goals of happiness and financial freedom.

It is possible that you will experience improvements after a single session, but will often need 2-4 sessions in order to gain absolute control over your thoughts, and see gambling for the destructive and painful addiction that it really is.

It takes a little time, effort and patience…but the end result may just save your money, your health, your relationships, and your life.

For more information, or a confidential discussion about your (or a family member’s) gambling addiction, please call me on 1300 851 227 or

Can Hypnotherapy Cure Alcoholism?

Can Hypnotherapy Cure Alcoholism?

Addiction to alcohol (otherwise known as alcoholism) is a heartbreaking and life-threatening disease.

It’s one of those addictions that can start very innocently, and then sneak up on you until one day you realize you’ve got a problem.

Drinking alcohol is more than a social norm in this country. It’s a way of life. Whereas once we watched TV characters chain smoking in our favourite movies and series, we now see them drinking a never ending supply of beer, wine and spirits.

The journey to destruction often starts out socially, or by having one every now and then to relax. Over time you find it harder and harder to stop and may start drinking earlier in the day, or hiding it from loved ones or colleagues.

Here are a few common scenarios:

  • Drinking beer (sometimes with smoking), between 6-12 bottles every night
  • Drinking wine every night, perhaps a bottle or more and going to bed drunk
  • Needing spirits (such as vodka and orange juice) every evening, and occasionally throughout the day

It’s only when you finally admit that you have a problem, can you see how much it is affecting your family, finances, and especially your body.

You decide that you need to stop, but it feels almost impossible. Your mind is in total discord: battling between what it’s used to, and what you want it to be.

But there is hope. You can beat the addiction, and I can help you.

Alcoholism is a disease of the mind: the result of doing the same thing over and over and finding powerful ways to justify it to yourself. Together we can break through that thinking, and give power to the new part of your mind that says, “No. I’ve had enough!”

During a hypnotherapy session we will focus on:

  1. How drinking makes you feel
  2. What triggers you to drink
  3. Your underlying reasons for drinking

There are many possible underlying reasons why you drink, and it’s important that we find and deal with these. For example, if mum and dad drank a lot then you are more likely to feel that (a) it’s acceptable and (b) it feels like home.

Perhaps you are very shy and alcohol makes you become the life of the party, or you are stressed and it helps you relax. Whatever the case, I will work with you to free your mind so that you don’t need alcohol to be who you want to be. You can just be it.

I’ve worked with hundreds of clients over the years, and achieved a 95% success rate in just 3-4 sessions.

Stop looking at life through an empty bottle, and start living it.

Contact me today to discuss the best way to beat your alcohol addiction. (Not tomorrow…today!).

How it Works: Hypnotherapy for Stress and Anxiety

How it Works: Hypnotherapy for Stress and Anxiety

Mild stress is one thing, but severe stress and anxiety can impact your life significantly. It can cause you to avoid situations, miss out on fun occasions, upset your work and relationships, and create disease in the body.

People have been known to faint, or mistake panic attacks for heart attacks, due to the extreme physical side effects.

Stress and anxiety can occur due to any number of reasons. Sometimes it happens due to continued negative thinking over time, and other times it is the result of a significant traumatic event or situation.

Hypnotherapy is an excellent treatment for both stress and anxiety no matter how mild or severe it may be.

Generally clients require 3-4 sessions to be cured, though this depends on the individual and how deeply rooted their anxiety is.

In your initial session, we will discuss what makes you feel stressed and anxious. When did it start? How did it start? What triggers it? How do you normally try to handle it?

Then we will go deeper.

In a state of deep relaxation, I will work with your subconscious to:

Identify and allow the sensations of relaxation. Highly stressed people spend so much time in fight or flight mode that they’ve often forgotten how to relax. Just being placed under hypnosis often provides huge relief. Your body and mind needs to experience this relief in order to be able to identify it, and re-create it later.

Uncover the true source of your anxiety or stress. We will find and work on the source of your anxiety, and we may also need to tackle the fear of fear itself. The fear of an oncoming panic attack is often enough to cause a panic attack and send your body spiralling out of control. So dealing with your anxiety is a two-stage process: curing the anxiety of a particular situation; and curing the anxiety of having anxiety.

Equip you with the tools to empower yourself. I’ll provide your mind with a number of tools it can use, whenever a sticky situation arises. This includes:

  • Re-affirming your confidence in yourself and the ability to handle whatever comes your way;
  • Techniques to self-hypnotise and place yourself in an instant state of calm whenever you need it; and
  • Positive imagery, to counter any negative imagery you normally experience.

Anxiety and stress disorders arise from the mind, and hypnotherapy is a powerful treatment for the mind. From learning to cope with stressful situations at work, to curing complicated anxiety disorders (including PTSD), hypnotherapy may be the solution you need.

To learn more, or to book a session, call me on 1300 851 227 or 6156 8227.

I look forward to hearing from you, and helping you get rid of anxiety and regain control of your life.

What is the Difference Between Gastric Band Hypnotherapy and Lap Band Hypnotherapy?

What is the Difference Between Gastric Band Hypnotherapy and Lap Band Hypnotherapy?

People often get confused between Gastric Band Hypnotherapy and Lap Band Hypnotherapy.

Are they the same thing? And if they are, why aren’t they just called by one name?

Here’s the story: Lap Band is actually LapBand® – the name of the first product approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) in America to be used for Gastric Band surgery. It is a product owned by a pharmaceutical company to perform the procedure of gastric banding.

Prior to gastric banding, many doctors performed a surgery known as Gastric Bypass. Instead of implanting an adjustable gastric band (LapBand®) to reduce stomach size, gastric bypass involves stapling the stomach and moving a part of the intestines to the small stomach pouch, so the patient can’t eat much and bypasses most of the stomach and small intestines where nutrients and calories are absorbed.

While this did help patients who were in imminent danger of serious health concerns from obesity, it was very invasive. These days, gastric band surgery is considered much safer and therefore preferable to gastric bypass, simply because the risks are lower and it doesn’t involve tampering with the body’s natural design.

At Accordhypno, we use the Virtual Gastric Band Hypnotherapy System. Lap band hypnotherapy does not actually exist, because hypnotherapy does not require the use of the physical LapBand® product. What we are doing, is replicating the gastric band procedure virtually, which makes you feel as though you have had gastric band surgery, and allows you to achieve similar results.

The Virtual Gastric Band Hypnotherapy System was developed by Sheila Granger in the UK, and was first tested on a group of 25 people with outstanding results. Together, the group achieved an accumulated weight loss of 90kg in just over 3 weeks. Only 1 person in the whole trial did not lose weight.

I have been personally trained on Sheila Granger’s system, and given a license to use her system on my clients.

The system works by convincing your mind (through deep-state hypnotherapy) that you have had gastric band surgery and can no longer fit large amounts of food in your stomach. Your brain believes this, so when you go to eat a meal you will find yourself feeling fuller, faster. Eating less = less calories = more weight loss!

Gastric Band Hypnotherapy is definitely not a diet, and though you are encouraged to eat well and exercise regularly, it is not so much about what you eat but the amount you can eat. Because you believe your stomach is physically smaller, you won’t actually feel like eating much at all.

One of the best aspects of the system is that it usually produces the same results are surgery, but is 10x cheaper, safer and faster (i.e.: no need to wait on a hospital waiting list).

To learn more about how the system works, read our blog: How Gastric Band Hypnotherapy Works or to see some of the Case Studies from what can be achieved using the Virtual Gastric Band Hypnotherapy System, visit Sheila Granger’s website.

Quit Smoking Hypnotherapy

Quit Smoking Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy for quitting smoking is one of the best smoking cessation techniques available.

It has an incredibly high success rate (about 97%), costs just a few hundred dollars and is drug-free (so you’re not escaping one habit by creating another one such as with nicotine substitutes).

Often, people are scared to give it a go. And this has less to do with a fear of hypnotherapy and more to do with a fear of never smoking again. Before you quit smoking, your body and brain believe you need to smoke. Even just the thought of successfully quitting is enough to make many people not want to try especially with something that has a proven success rate.

Only when you are absolutely certain that you no longer want to smoke will you be able to make (and keep) a Quit Smoking hypnotherapy appointment.

When this moment happens to you, whether it be from sheer frustration over the cost, the effects on your health, energy levels or another reason, call me (Rebecca: 6156 8227).

When you come to your appointment, bring one of your cigarettes with you. We will release the hold that cigarette has over you during our work together.

In our session we will work on:

  • The reasons you began smoking
  • Why you continue to smoke
  • The effects it has on you (personally)
  • Your new life as a non-smoker

Smoking is a habit, not an addiction. Believing it is an addiction that you can’t break is one factor that keeps you lighting up day after day. We will address this, as well as other myths you have been made to believe about how difficult it is to stop smoking.

Everyone is different, but generally during the session you will feel like you are in a deep state of relaxation.

When you wake up you will remember that you smoked but you will feel extremely positive about quitting to the point where you cannot stand the idea of starting again. Many of my clients report that they have absolutely no desire to light a cigarette after their session.

At the end of our session you will receive an audio version which you should do twice a day, every day for 10 days. This will help reinforce our work together and keep your confidence and positivity levels high.

Most clients only require this one session, though if you have any problems a free booster session is available if you need it.

I have been performing Quit Smoking Hypnosis for over 27 years. I have received hundreds of testimonials from very happy customers who came in smokers, and after many years they can still report that they are happy non-smokers.

When you are ready to leave smoking behind and start a new life smoke free, call me on 6156 8227 and book your appointment.

How Gastric Band Hypnosis Works

How Gastric Band Hypnosis Works

Imagine feeling like you’ve just been through gastric band surgery; everything from the anaesthesia to the surgical procedure and recovery without ever setting foot in a hospital.

That’s what gastric band hypnotherapy does. It creates the entire setting for gastric band surgery, using hypnotherapy performed by a licensed gastric banding practitioner and at-home hypnosis guided by an audio tape.

The process is thousands of dollars cheaper, contains no physical risk and makes the client feel that their stomach size has shrunk significantly which then causes them to make improved decisions about portion sizes at meal times.

Gastric band hypnotherapy has a high success rate, but it is not a magic pill for weight loss. Just as surgery creates the state necessary to help you make better decisions, you must actually then make them for change to occur. And so it is with hypnosis.

How does it work?

In our first session I take the time to learn all about you, including: how long you have been overweight, why you believe you are overweight, any emotional or psychological triggers that cause overeating, and other techniques you may have tried to help you lose the weight.

We begin with standard hypnotherapy that places you into a state of deep relaxation and peace.

Once your mind is open to suggestion, I will use a series of techniques to change the way you feel about food, diet and your body. My work is highly personalised, so I will use whatever words and modalities I feel will help you gain the most benefit from our session.

After a short time I will awaken you, and you will firmly believe that you have been in hospital and have a small silicone band around your stomach, as would have occurred during gastric band surgery.

Following the session I will provide you with an audio tape, and some further advice to guide you in making healthier lifestyle choices (just as a physician would do to increase the likely success of a gastric band procedure).

In total, you will require four sessions. Generally clients lose 3kg after the first session, and then 1-1.5kg every week following.

Gastric band hypnotherapy is the most popular hypnotherapy technique for weight loss. Most of my clients are tickled pink (so they tell me) however as with anything, results cannot be guaranteed. There is no one-size-fits-all solution. The most important thing is that we work together until you become the ideal version of yourself…or the real you.

How Weight Loss Hypnotherapy Works

How Weight Loss Hypnotherapy Works

Weight loss hypnotherapy is not a magic pill for your body. It doesn’t remove the need for healthy eating and exercise. What it can be though, is a magic pill for your mind.

I feel that most people would agree that weight gain is caused by a lack of exercise and poor eating habits, and is as much a problem with the mind as it is with the body.

Your mind accepts what you tell it. What you think you are, you are! Maybe a lifetime of enjoying junk food or other reasons such as emotional factors are at play here. Maybe you don’t like exercise. Whatever the cause, it’s going to take a bit of effort to convince your mind otherwise.

For some people this is easier than for others.

Some people are so unhappy with the way they look that the sheer desire not to feel this way anymore is enough to completely overhaul their life. That’s not to say their journey is without effort. But they generally have a pretty strong chance of success.

For others (especially those who find comfort in food), it can be as difficult as quitting smoking or dropping any other bad habit. You associate good feelings with food. It becomes your friend. And from that, even though you may be desperate to lose weight, there is a constant battle between two parts of your mind: the part that wants the change and seeks the outcome, and the part that loves the status quo and comfort.

The part that loves the status quo and comfort will always try to find a way to sabotage your efforts to change (usually through self-talk, such as: you need to eat that, it’s OK, who cares how I look). To convince it that food does not equal comfort means attacking its entire belief system and every decision it has made for you over the past number of months or years!

This is essentially what willpower is: listening to the two sides of your mind as they fight, and trying to ignore the side that loves the status quo. But it’s not exactly a fair fight, because this part of the mind has had a huge head start. It’s been around for years. And if you’ve often let it argue its point and win, it’s going to feel pretty sure of its ability to keep you just as you are. On the other hand, the part that wants the change is very new and completely inexperienced at standing its ground in the face of a bully!

Now imagine what would happen if the two parts of your mind worked in total accord.

Imagine the power and strength you would have. Would you even need willpower?

That’s how hypnotherapy/parts therapy works, and that’s what I do here at Accordhypno. I work to create accord in the mind so that the way you wish you were, you can actually become. Your mind works in harmony to get you there. ACCORD means all parts working together for the outcome.

Weight loss hypnotherapy and counselling works by finding the status quo part of your mind and helping it support you, rather than sabotage you.

And with your whole mind ready to embrace your weight loss goal, you’ll be fast on your way to a whole new lifestyle and a whole new you.

If you are ready to find Accord in your mind and start losing the weight, contact me on 6156 8227 today.

Hypnotherapy for weight loss is not a magic pill. It doesn’t change the effort required to get healthy. But when you are excited and willing to get fit, it won’t feel like a whole lot of effort at all. It will not be, I can assure you.
